31 ArtWalk Evening in Crested Butte
Sponsored by the Artists of the West Elks where you can stroll from gallery to gallery in Crested Butte enjoying libations,
appetizers and local art exhibitions. Join us for an evening of art and experience the breadth of creativity that gathers here in our inspired mountain town. 2 Bearfoot Bluegrass
Originally heralding from Alaska, Bearfoot Bluegrass first arrived on the bluegrass scene by scorching the Telluride Bluegrass
festival stage in 2001 by winning the Best Up and Coming Bluegrass Band. Their 2009 album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Charts. Now energetically re-configured and with a new album out, Bearfoot touts original members Angela Oudean and Jason Norris joined by new members Todd Grebe, Nora Jane Struthers, and P.J. George. The end result is arrangements that weave together a multiplicity of musical styles from easy, good-time lopes to hardcore bluegrass woven with true stories, tall tales and a fresh rockin’ element. 8:00 p.m. $25. 1 Aerial Open Workout
Can’t get enough of flying through the air on the lyra or aerial silks? Wish you had more time to practice your newfound tricks? The Crested Butte Dance Collective is offering this chance every Friday morning from November through February. There is no instruction given during this Open Workout. Students who have completed a Beginner Aerial Dance Series in the past six months or have a beginning knowledge of aerial with permission from in-structors are welcome to come and practice. Feb 1 – March 15 Basic Press Molds Series
Learn the exciting possibilities of making multiples in clay during this six-week class. Hand build a bas relief model in clay, learn to mix plaster, and then cast your piece to create a mold that can be reused to make a series of similar pieces. A great skill to have to create limited edition series and sets without starting from scratch each time. Private lessons also available. 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. $275 + $25 Supply Fee. 2 Valentine’s Paint Your Own Pottery Event
Give your Valentine a handmade gift this year! Join us to paint Valentine’s pottery gifts at The Art Studio on Elk! Choose a piece, glaze it, and we fire it in our onsite kiln. Choose from our wide selection of pottery including Valentine items, mugs, bowls, plates, specialty items, kids’ items, and more. 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Can’t make it to this event? 6, 7 & 8 Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Master Classes
This is a dance troupe that does more than just entertain. They elevate. Educate. Excite. The troupe declares a mission of in-ternational, cross-cultural dance arts and education rooted in African American traditions. Its mastermind is listed as a Liv-ing Legend for her work in transcribing the social issues of race, prejudice and oppression into a message of healing. Three master classes for intermediate-advanced students will be conducted by the troupe. These classes are open to students 9th grade through adult. West African Dance: Wednesday, 2/6 at the Center. All levels 6:00 p.m. Modern Dance: Thursday, 2/7 at the Pump Room. Intermediate to Advanced. 6:00 p.m. “Cleo Dance” taught by Cleo: Friday, 2/8 at the Pump Room. Paint Your Own Pottery
Yes, you can still paint pottery this winter! The Art Studio of the Center for the Arts, located in downtown Crested Butte, is home to our art classes, workshops, Shared Artist’s Space AND our Pottery Painting Shop. We are open for painting pottery this winter season during our special Pottery Painting Events, scheduled before major holidays like Christmas, Val-entine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day (see our sched-ule online). Private Art Lessons
In addition to our regularly scheduled programming at The Art Studio of the Center for the Arts, we also offer both pri-vate art lessons for children and adults in a variety of medi-ums. Based on your interests, we will help match you with an experienced and appropriate instructor. You can view our instructors, their bios, photos of their work, and links to their websites on our website. A few options for lessons (not a com-plete list) are to learn to throw on the wheel; get instruction in watercolor, oil, or acrylic painting; learn how to make jewelry; go out in the field with a pro photographer; or learn how to draw! Shared Artist’s Space
If you’re looking for an affordable place to work on your art and a community of artists to work with, then become a Mem-ber of the Shared Artist’s Space (SAS) at the Art Studio of the Center for the Arts on Elk Avenue. Your SAS Membership Includes: access to studio space seven days a week by key code entry; personal storage for art supplies, tools, clay, and works in progress; access to potter’s wheels, slab roller, wedg-ing table, and basic ceramics tools and supplies; use of our kiln; access to a community of artists; and the potential to show and sell your work at ASCA (must apply and be ac-cepted).
