22 Crested Butte Film Series presents Searching for Sugarman Join us for our inaugural film, the 2013 Academy Award-winning documentary, Searching for Sugarman. 24 Alpenglow: Urban Island Steel
Conjuring the feelings of warm Caribbean sun and sinking your toes in the sand, Urban Island Steel maximizes the versatility of the melodious steel drum to perform danceable Caribbean folk tunes, popular island music and unexpected pop classics. Influenced by artists from Bob Marley to Jimmy Buffet, the seven-piece Urban Island Steel is Rick Henson, double second pans; Amy White, vocals; Julia Kamenetzky, tenor pan; Ryan Elwood, cello pans; Aaron Walker, bass pans; Kurt Ochsner, drums; and Dustin Arndt, percussion. 26 Tour de Forks: Winemaker Dinner with Soupçon Elegance
This Tour de Forks event features Chef / Proprietor Jason Vernon of the Soupçon Bistro at Jerry and Andy Brown’s home in Moon Ridge. Wine by Blair Fox Cellars. Tour de Forks is the delectable, signature fundraising series for the Center for the Arts. Through-out the summer, food and architectural enthusiasts visit a variety of private homes and dine on epicurean delights from accomplished chefs in a diverse menu of events nothing short of culinary and building artistry. Through July 27 Stupendous and Small Art
Come and see The Art Studio’s eight week show featuring hand-made small and gift-able items created by local Crested Butte artists. Mary Tuck’s work is a combination of acrylic painted river rocks with portraits of wildlife, and an eclectic collection of PMC and set stone jewelry. Laura Elm’s work is populated by Creatures of Habit, Fairy God Monsters, Glitter Moons and Smiley Cats on pottery, in sculptures, and on handmade collaged cards. Becky Chappell’s work is a series of impressionistic landscapes as well as her more current abstract work. Donna Rozman’s work is a collection of unique wheel thrown and hand built pottery, featuring colorful, hand painted designs. Through July 21 Five Week Dance Workshop
Kick off your summer with the Crested Butte School of Dance five week super fun dance program! Local teachers will be offering zumba, aerial, cardio hip hop, tap, technique classes and more. Classes will be drop-in and/or punch-card based, so you can dance as much as you want. Don’t miss this chance to groove … it is only five weeks. Teens and adults. Through July 9 African Dance Series
Accompanied by live drummer Shane Whitener, this class explores traditional African dance through a variety of movement. African dance is an ancient tradition that brings us back to our roots. Connect with your spirit through the pounding of the live drum while you learn movements that have been practiced since the beginning of African civilizations. Learn from Crested Butte’s own Jenn Robinson who is passionate about teaching African traditional dance movement in a welcoming environment to beginners and more advanced dancers. This dance is joyous and a great workout, so don’t miss out on your chance to experience it. This is four-week series culminating on July 9. 5:15—6:30 p.m. $15. On the Center’s Outdoor Stage. Paint Your Own Pottery at The Art Studio
The Art Studio is back open for painting pottery this summer with regular hours June 26 – August 25. Drop in to open painting hours Wednesday – Friday 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Please allow one full week for pottery to be fired, or if you will be leaving town before your pottery is ready, we have an option to ship. Shared Artist’s Space at The Art Studio
The Art Studio has a full ceramics studio, with wheels, kilns, wedging tables, tools, and work storage space. Ceramicists are invited to become a member of the studio, or as we call it, The Shared Artist’s Space (SAS). SAS Membership Includes: access to studio space seven days a week by key code entry; personal stor-age for art supplies, tools, clay, and works in progress; access to potter’s wheels, slab roller, wedging table, and basic ceramics tools and supplies; use of our kiln; access to a community of artists; and the potential to show and sell your work at ASCA (must apply and be accepted). Just for Kids
20 – 21 Two-Day Advanced Art Camp for 9 – 11 Year Olds: Makeover Your (or someone else’s!) Town Bike. The Art Studio has worked on this project twice in the last five summers, but this time kids will get the chance to work solo on their own design for their own bike (or someone else’s bike!) over a two day period. In addition, kids will work though all the steps including priming the frame; dreaming up the design; creating stencils; laying down the base coat; working with spray paint, air brush, and free hand painting to finish the design; and sealing the finished product. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. $100 for two days includes supplies.
