23 Tour de Forks: North Pole Basin Hike
Take advantage of the only hike offered at Tour de Forks. Accessi-ble solely by special permission, the North Pole Basin is perched between the Maroon Bells Snowmass and Raggeds Wilderness areas. With the high summits of Crystal Peak and Treasury Moun-tain looming overhead, dynamic geologic components will be in-terpreted by Dr. Howard Whiteman, researcher and faculty of over 20 years with the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. Fed by cascades of mountain streams, this high alpine meadow is rife with wildflowers, which will be identified by enthusiastic flower naturalist Cynthia Peatross. Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds is a nine-piece powerhouse that puts a modern spin on classic soul. Reception
A native of Czechoslovakia, Vitek Kruta fuses his training in Old World techniques of fine and decorative arts with his eclectic vari-ety of painting styles. His restoration experience with paintings, murals, frescoes, and furniture in castles, cathedrals and historic buildings inspires “Inscapes.” Vitek is set designer of this year’s opera, The Magic Flute as well as Carmen from 2011, presented by the Crested Butte Music Festival. 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Free. If you’re looking for an affordable place to work on your art and a community of artists to work with, then become a Member of the Shared Artist’s Space (SAS). A three week dance workshop offering daily classes (M-F) in Contemporary Jazz and Rhythm Tap. Jacob Mora and Donovan Helma, guest teachers. Instructor John Meckes focuses on the ever-changing and some-times controversial world of grafitti and street art. An Art Studio class especially for 10 – 13 year old students taught by Emily Gibson. Learn essential drawing skills and how to draw realistic faces. Cocktails, Canvas and Cabernet! Bring the art of painting to life on the Lobar stage every Tuesday night in July. Watch the pros paint to music while splattering paint across your own canvas with ex-pert instruction from the rotating roster of featured painters. Each participant (who is 21 years of age) will be supplied with libations while painting. Don’t be shy! 20 & 21 Good Family Theatre — Pollyanna: Live! The time honored story of the enthusiastic, lovable Polyanna will be presented for the first time as a musical. The Creative Arts Institute, now presenting for the thirty-second summer, is pleased to offer this top quality entertainment with a free admission for the whole family. The material is appropriate and compelling to ages from six and up. One of the fascinating features is a sixteen instrument Orff Overture, with the cast members as the musicians. Music, dance, and truly convincing acting make this a must-see.
