29 KISSIDUGU The Kissidugu West African Drum and Dance Ensemble performs traditional Guinea pieces with powerful live drums and exploxive dancing in a high energy performance that is nothing short of inspiring. Leader Fara Tolno has performed with masters Mamady Keita Sekouba Bambino, Youssou N’Dour, Salif Keita Habibe, Koite and Oumou Sangare as well as musicians Burning Spear, Neil Young, Otis Taylor, Joe Cocker and B.B. King. The mission of Kissidugu is to inspire people of all colors, cultures and backgrounds to con-nect to themselves, one another and their community through music, dance and dialogue. 8:00 p.m. $25. 1 INTERMEDIATE HOOPDANCE Come and enjoy learning hula-hooping techniques and tricks that will “wow” everyone you know! Students will learn the core and off-body techniques of hooping that will build a solid foundation to use in hoopdancing. The move-ments taught here will strengthen the major muscle groups of the body while challenging the mind. Hula hoops of various sizes and weights are provided for classroom use. Feather Stamp Stationary, T-Shirt Make-overs, Wine Bottle Lanterns, Red Neck Wine Glasses, Mother’s Day Greeting Cards and Wine Cork Bulletin Boards are the topics. Show up for one or for all. Just for Kids
29 MODERN DAY GRAFFITI, BANKSY, STREET ART AND PUBLIC INSTALLATIONS This class for 5th—8th graders will focus on the ever-changing and sometimes controversial world of graffiti and street art. In addition to studying graffiti artists, like Banksy, students will work with design concepts, drawing, stenciling and spray painting to make their own artistic statements. All work will be either done in the classroom or approved before it is carried out, and no vandalism will take place in this class. Instructor: Emily Gib-son. 3:15—5:15 p.m. $120 + $30 materials.
