Through July 27 Stupendous and Small Art
Come and see The Art Studio’s eight week show featuring hand-made small and gift-able items created by local Crested Butte artists. Mary Tuck’s work is a combination of acrylic painted river rocks with portraits of wildlife, and an eclectic collection of PMC and set stone jewelry. Laura Elm’s work is populated by Creatures of Habit, Fairy God Monsters, Glitter Moons and Smiley Cats on pottery, in sculptures, and on handmade collaged cards. Becky Chappell’s work is a series of impressionistic landscapes as well as her more current abstract work. Donna Rozman’s work is a collection of unique wheel thrown and hand built pottery, featuring colorful, hand painted designs. 17 – July 21 Five Week Dance Workshop
Kick off your summer with the Crested Butte School of Dance five week super fun dance program! Local teachers will be offering zumba, aerial, cardio hip hop, tap, technique classes and more. Classes will be drop-in and/or punch-card based, so you can dance as much as you want. Don’t miss this chance to groove … it is only five weeks. Teens and adults. Accompanied by live drummer Shane Whitener, this class explores traditional African dance through a variety of movement. African dance is an ancient tradition that brings us back to our roots. Connect with your spirit through the pounding of the live drum while you learn movements that have been practiced since the be-ginning of African civilizations. Learn from Crested Butte’s own Jenn Robinson who is passionate about teaching African tradi-tional dance movement in a welcoming environment to beginners and more advanced dancers. This dance is joyous and a great workout, so don’t miss out on your chance to experience it. This is four-week series culminating on July 9. 5:15—6:30 p.m. $15. On the Center’s Outdoor Stage. Through 20 Aerial Dance Summer Intensive
Join the Crested Butte Dance Collective for the first ever Aerial Dance Summer Intensive. This is a unique opportunity for kids and adults to take high quality classes from the CBDC’s finest aerial instructors. Learn skills aerial equipment such as the lyra and silks. No experience necessary. Classes will culminate in an option to share your new skills with friends and loved ones at the end of the intensive. Classes will be held two times per week for a total of six classes on Mondays and Thursdays.

Paint Your Own Pottery at The Art Studio
The Art Studio is back open for painting pottery this summer with regular hours June 26 – August 25. Drop in to open painting hours Wednesday – Friday 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Please allow one full week for pottery to be fired, or if you will be leaving town before your pottery is ready, we have an option to ship. Through 28 Xanadu Performing Arts Company: Summer Theater Camp
Xanadu Performing Arts Company is designed to inspire and motivate children ages 5 – 18. Campers experience the joy of performing on stage while gaining self-confidence, critical thinking skills, and the importance of teamwork. Campers are introduced to prop building, costume design, music, dance, and acting. Over a three week period, children will audition, rehearse, and perform a live musical for the town of Crested Butte. Camp occurs weekdays, June 10 – 29. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. $30/day includes camp t-shirt and snacks (payment required in full). 13 – 14 Two-Day Advanced Art Camp for 9 – 11 Year Olds: Clay Character Building: Villains and Heroes!
Students will work for two days on a ceramic hand building project where they will get the opportunity to build a character (well known or imaginary) out of clay. Focus will be not only on hand building skills like working with slips, attaching pieces, utilizing tools, and hollowing out sections for firing, but also on working three-dimensionally with shape, proportion, and design to literally “draw” realistically in clay. Pieces will be fired after class concludes, and students may return during The Art Studio’s open painting hours to glaze them. 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. $100 for two days includes supplies.
