Gearing Up for Summer In Crested Butte

It’s starting to feel a lot like summer around here in Crested Butte. We’re all gearing up for a busy season and can’t wait for the fun to begin!

Mountain Biking is off to a great start. Several trails have opened over the past few weeks. All of the trails are easily accessed from downtown Crested Butte…

Upper Loop / Tony’s Trail / Whetstone Vista:
There are many ways to ride these trails, either as connectors to Brush Creek rides, or as high quality rides in themselves. They are all good in either direction. Tony’s is a smooth intermediate trail, Upper Loop is intermediate with a technical expert section 1/2 mile long, Upper Upper is expert & technical, Whestone Vista is advanced intermediate, more bumpy than technical.

Strand Hill:
Access Strand Hill via Brush Creek Road, approximately 2 miles south of town. This is a fun, short singletrack trail that’s sure to please. It’s one of the first trails to open n the spring and one of the last to close in the fall.

Lupine Trail:
This trail is one of the newest around town, opening during the summer 2011. Ride it from the Saddle Ridge subdivision cul-de-sac off Gothic Road or access it from the County Road off the Slate River road. Just be sure you don’t park your car in the Saddle Ridge subdivision.

Snodgrass:
Always a locals’ favorite. Snodgrass is just a fun trail. You can either ride the Rec Path from town up to Mt. Crested Butte to the Snodgrass Trailhead, or hop the free shuttle bus (bikes taken on first-come, first-served basis) to the ski area and ride the short distance to the trailhead.
